Leadership Social Services

by Missy Hanks, Executive Director

What are the true social service needs of our growing Huntsville/Madison County community? Are you interested in gaining firsthand knowledge of current community needs through exploring social service topics and on-site visits to local agencies?  If so, we have a valuable program for you!

LEADERSHIP Social Services is a 10-month community leadership development program sponsored and facilitated by The ELM Foundation. Class members represent a variety of social service agencies and professional backgrounds including agency staff, board members, volunteers, and interested community members. The program goals are to:

  1. Deepen understanding of community needs

  2. Build relationships across different agencies

  3. Foster cross-agency collaboration

  4. Enhance leadership skills

Through various experiences, participants learn to connect, communicate, and collaborate effectively in preparation to take on a more active and impactful leadership role in addressing community needs through their organizations.

Here's what graduates are saying about Leadership Social Services

  • "LSS has opened my eyes to the vast amount of resources that exist to support our local community. I have enjoyed learning, meeting new people, and expanding my leadership skills. I know I will take this insight back to my organization and utilize it for years to come." Amy Talton, Director of Community Care, The Cornerstone Initiative

  • "LSS was a great experience for me. As someone who is in the community but doesn't work directly with non-profit organizations, the class was incredibly eye-opening and informative. I made some great friends in the class and we have used our network to support one another. I highly recommend LSS to someone who wants to get a closer look at how organizations serve our community in the non-profit sector." -Suzanne Sullivan, Operations Manager, WAAY-TV
